Q1. Is is safe? Both herbal medicine and naturopathy when practised by qualified practitioners have an excellent safety record.
Q2. Why see a qualified herbalist when I can just look up herbs and buy them from a shop?
Though herbs are much less likely to cause serious harm compared to pharmaceutical drugs, they are nonetheless powerful. With the benefit of a much deeper understanding of the properties of herbs, a herbalist will tailor-make a formula suited to your specific needs. Many people waste their money and time by buying herbs that are not the most effective for their condition. I use very high quality herbs and use "practitioner only" strengths and doses.
Q3. How does the EU ban on unlicensed herbal medicines affect herbal treatments?
Many herbal medicines are no longer available to buy from shops. However herbal practitioners are still able to supply any herb as long as it is specially made up for each client. The only herbs you can now buy from shops (apart fron old stock) are produced by larger companies who can afford the cost of licencing the product or products where the dose is so low that it can be sold as a food supplement.
Q4. Is it safe for me to take herbs whilst breastfeeding? When breastfeeding or during pregnancy you should not take any medical herbs or other supplements without consulting a qualified practitioner. Whilst there are some herbs that should be avoided at these times, there are herbs and other treatments that are very helpful and safe when taken with proper guidance.
Q5. Do I still need to see my GP?
Most complimentary health practitioners will advise you to keep seeing your GP. We treat holistically and will aim to rebalance the body. We do not work by diagnosing specific illnesses as we work more holistically. We may on some occasions suggest that you to get something checked out by your doctor.
Q7. If I am taking prescribed medication, can I also take herbs?
Your practitioner needs to be told about any medication you are taking. There are some known herb/drug interactions and a qualified herbalist will be able to avoid these by choosing the best herbs.
Q8. How long will it take for the treatment to work?
Some clients will notice changes as soon as the treatment begins. For others, particularly where the condition is complex or has been experienced for a long time, it can take longer and the client will need to persist to receive the benefits. You will also need to make the choice to invest in your health especially where lifestyle or eating habits are concerned.
Q9. Can treatments be given to young children?
Young children often respond very well to treatments - both herbal and Asyra homeopathy - as there should be less toxicity in the body and they react more quickly. Herbs can be given safely and effectively in very small doses or given as baths to be absorbed through the skin. Naturopaths have a range of treatments to suit all ages.
Investing in your health is probably the most important thing you can do. The amount you pay is substantially less than normal private health or dental care. You will probably pay a lot more to fix your car or boiler!
